Setting Up Backups with Karen’s Replicator

Step 4 — Set up your backup
This is a rather long step, though it is not too complicated. Karen’s Replicator has a logic of its own, but when you get used to it, you’ll be able to do things quickly and easily. In this article we’re going to set up a general backup of your My Documents folder. To do so we first click on the Edit Settings button in the Replicator’s main window. Once you do so, this window will pop up:

Click on New Job... and the job settings window will appear.
Give your job a name in the Job Name box (I called mine My Documents) and then click on the first Browse... button to select the source folder. The following window will pop up. Select the My Documents folder from it and click OK.

Now, click on the Browse button for the destination folder. In my case I click on My Computer, then on the HawkBackup (E:) drive and from there on Documents.

Your screen should now look like this:

I want to point out two things about this screen. The default settings are good, because they will make sure that everything gets backed up and nothing gets erased. Generally you will not want to have the backups of your files erased when you wipe them off your main hard drive. For this reason you want to make sure that Replicate Folder and File Deletions remains unchecked.
Secondly, as we’ll discuss below, the scheduling of a backup task using Karen’s Replicator should at first be done manually until you’ve got the kinks worked out. For this reason make sure that Enabled remains unchecked.
hen you’re done with that hit the Save Job button and return to the main window.
