Now, as mentioned above a scheduled backup is better than a manual backup because it won’t be forgotten. The downside to a scheduled back up is that you have to make sure your external drive is plugged into your machine at that time. Standard practice for backing up machines is to make sure that your external drive is not plugged in all the time. It is only plugged in when you need it for backing up or for restoring data. Otherwise it is stored in a safe, fire-and-flood-proof place. For this reason I recommend that the home user do their backup manually about once a week. Replicator allows you to set up a Shortcut on your desktop to automate this.
In order to make this shortcut, you start Karen’s replicator and click the Save Shortcut to Job(s)... button.
When you click this button the following screen will appear:
Click the check mark next to all the jobs that you want Karen’s Replicator to back up when you click the icon and click Save Shortcut... You will be shown a screen where you can select where you would like to save this shortcut to. I would recommend saving it to your desktop for quick and easy access.
I called mine Back Up My Documents and now this icon is visible on my desktop:
I can double-click this icon and Karen’s Replicator will automatically pop up and back everything up that I told it to. No fuss, no hassle, no problem. (Remember that your external drive needs be plugged in before running Replicator!)
