Lately I’ve been thinking a bit about some of the “old” Creeds. I was looking through the Apostle’s Creed, which is often quoted in liturgy by many denominations of the church. However, I have found that we evangelicals tend to not do so. The succinct, comprehensive statements about the basic tenets of the Christian faith have never been so elegantly summarized as in the Apostles’ Creed. Perhaps we, too, should hold this ancient, time-honored creed before our eyes. It is something that could bless us as it is memorized, or hung on the wall of our offices and living rooms, kept before us as much as Scripture is. In the next few months I want to take some time to ponder the Apostle’s Creed, how its statements rise from Scripture and how they impact our lives today.
