Revelation

J.M. Diener

October 2006

One of the things that I have been thinking about recently was some remarks made by Dr. Bryan Hughes, who came and talked to us this summer. He did a two-hour overview of the book of Revelation, which in itself was a real feat. He explained that the book is viewed as a very mixed-up book that is hard to understand, but also pointed out that it is the only book in the Bible that offers a blessing for those who read it, not once, but twice (see Rev. 1:3; 22:7). And in the midst of this one who simply reads the book will be blessed, even without understanding it all. In a sense that is true of the whole Bible, since there are passages that even the very wise cannot fully understand.

Another point of note was the fact that if a symbol is given in the book, it is usually explained in the same text. Things are not quite as obscure here as theologians would have the laymen believe. So, grab a nice cup of coffee or tea or whatever, pop on your favorite kind of music, open your Bible to the book of Revelation and prepare to be blessed.
